Pistol Australia is saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Downs.
Dr Barry Downs was born in Queensland on the 24th May 1930.
Barry was a pistol shooter of note with his main event being 50m Pistol (Free Pistol).
Barry was the National Champion in free pistol at the 1966 Nationals in Adelaide and also National Champion in 1968 Melbourne and 1969 in Albury. Barry also won the Silver medal 1967 and Bronze 1970.
Barry was the inaugural winner of Air Pistol when introduced at the 1970 Nationals in Adelaide and also won the Gold in Perth 1973.
Barry was a member of the Australian Olympic Team to compete in Free Pistol at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. Also in that team was Alex Taransky (deceased) 25m Rapid Fire Pistol and Don Tolhurst (deceased) in 50m Rifle 3 position.
