Target Pistol Australia appoints Sport Development Coordinator
Target Pistol Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Alejandro “Alex” Baez as its new Sport Development Coordinator, commencing 29 April 2026.
Alex will be based in Melbourne and will play an important role in supporting the growth, sustainability and development of target pistol shooting across Australia.
The Sport Development Coordinator role has been created to strengthen national participation, support clubs and member associations, and help develop athlete and coaching pathways that connect grassroots participation with future high-performance opportunities.
Alex brings strong experience in sport development, national program coordination, stakeholder engagement, participation growth, event delivery and community sport. He joins Target Pistol Australia following roles with Athletics Australia and AusCycling, where he worked across national participation programs, school and club engagement, inclusion initiatives, reporting, grant delivery and pathway-aligned sport development.
Ray Andrews OAM, President TPA said Alex’s background in participation growth, communications, inclusion and program delivery would be valuable as the organisation continues to build its national development framework.
“Alex brings a strong mix of practical sport development experience, stakeholder engagement skills and a genuine passion for inclusive community sport,” Andrews said.
“His work across Athletics Australia and AusCycling has given him direct experience in delivering programs through schools, clubs, volunteers, state bodies and national sporting organisations. These skills will be important as Target Pistol Australia continues to support member associations, strengthen club capability, and grow clear development opportunities for athletes and coaches.”
In the role, Alex will work closely with the TPA Pathways Development Team, comprising Annette Woodward, Sergei Evglevski and Steve Blackburn, to support the development of national athlete and coaching pathways. This work will include collaboration with coaches, member associations, clubs, volunteers, athletes, Shooting Australia and other key stakeholders.
Alex said he was excited to join Target Pistol Australia and contribute to the next stage of the sport’s growth.
“I am delighted to be joining Target Pistol Australia and look forward to working with the TPA community across the country,” Alex said.
“Target pistol shooting is a sport built on precision, discipline and focus, and I am excited by the opportunity to support participation growth while helping strengthen development pathways for athletes, coaches, clubs and volunteers.”
Alex holds a Master of Sport Management from Bond University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Culture from Clark University. He has also contributed to inclusive community sport programs in Australia and overseas, including work with para-sport, schools, clubs and volunteer-led participation initiatives.
Target Pistol Australia warmly welcomes Alex to the organisation and looks forward to his contribution to the sport nationally.
